Maths at Brinkley Grove
At Brinkley Grove We use the ‘White Rose’ maths planning documents to inform our Maths lesson planning. For each topic in Maths, children will complete ‘fluency’ tasks, where they learn and practise basic maths skills and maths facts. They will then complete ‘reasoning’ activities, giving explanation to their processes and describing how they calculated the final answer. Finally, children will carry out ‘problem solving’, applying their maths skills to different contexts. This approach is designed to build children’s maths skills and their ability to approach maths problems in a range of different ways with confidence.
If a child has ‘mastered’ a certain part of the maths curriculum then this means that they are extremely confident and can solve a range of maths problems in different contexts and select the appropriate methods and skills independently.
