Staff Governors

Kate Wadling

I am one of the staff governors and have been at the school since 2000. I am a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and work throughout the school assisting with cover for classes and supporting children in small group work. I am also the After Schools Clubs Co-ordinator. Both my children have been through Brinkley Grove School and thoroughly enjoyed there time here.

Mike Foster

I have been a member of staff since September 2010. Whilst I currently teach a Year 2 class I have also taught in Key Stage 2. I am also a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Darren Smith

I have been the headteacher at Brinkley Grove since January 2015, having previous worked in 2 other schools in Colchester. After completing my studies at Liverpool university, I began my teaching career in Spain in 1998 where I developed a passion for seeing children develop and to become a part of their community. Being a governor allows us to give something back to the community and although it can be a demanding role, it is hugely rewarding.

Partnership Governors

Isobel Sullivan

Vice-chair

Isobel is now retired after working in school finance for 20 years and  was the Bursar when Brinkley first opened. Isobel loved her time working at the school and was very excited about being able to come back as a Governor.  Children in school now know Isobel as the forest school lady as she has helped with this project each year.  She has two sons who are both grown up.  Isobel is heavily involved with Mile End WI and can often be found preparing lunch for 50 people.  Her hobbies are her large garden, reading – a real passion, needlework and bookbinding.

Peter Meacock

I became a Governor in early 2015. I have spent all of my working life in the Retail Betting industry and currently work as Head of Risk & Audit for a major high street company. I have a long connection with the school as my two, now grown up, daughters both attended the school from 1998 soon after it first opened. I was Treasurer of the Friends of Brinkley Grove until 2004, when my youngest daughter left to go to the Gilberd. My grandson now attends the school and I am pleased to have resumed my connection with Brinkley Grove.

Authority Governor

Anne Mayne

I joined the board of governors in 2015.  I am married with a daughter, who has been at Brinkley since September 2013.

I have worked for several years as a speech and language therapist within the NHS.  I also support the children's work in a local church.  I have a commitment to holistic care and to helping children achieve their full potential.  Schools play such a vital role in children's formative years and I hope to bring my experiences into my role as a governor serving the children of Brinkley Grove.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and days out.

Co-Opted Governors

Miles Moseley Chair of Governors

Miles is the chair of governors as well as a co-opted governor with two girls in the school. He has 25 years in the financial service industry and currently owns and operates two businesses in Colchester. Miles brings finance and business management skills to the board of governors.

Paul Shipton

Paul is a co-opted governor with two children at the school. He works in Brand Marketing and Leadership within the FMCG sector. He has a passion for History and is committed to ensuring that the school plays a vital role not only for its pupils but also for the community for in which it is situated.

Anita Holmes

I have one son at Brinkley Grove, who started in Reception in 2015. I work as a Project Manager in the Engineering sector and bring Project Management and Risk Management skills to the role of Governor.
I am keen to learn how the school operates, its strengths and approach to continuous improvement. I hope I can use my experience to contribute usefully in the role of Governor and to support the school.
In spare time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, walking, travelling, pilates and playing the piano.

Karen O’Neill

Karen has only recently joined the Governors and is enjoying learning how Brinkley Grove works on a day to day basis.

Gillian Bartle

I have two children, Charlie and Lucy here at Brinkley Grove, my son joined the school in 2014 and my daughter 2016.
I am a qualified secondary school music teacher and pursued this career for five years before becoming a mum! I am a keen musician and enjoy running in my spare time (you may spot me in the fluorescent jacket during winter!!)
My children have had a great start to school life here at Brinkley Grove, and I look forward to using my time and experience as a parent, and teacher to assist in the ongoing development and success of the school.

Chris Cave

My son joined Reception in 2016, and I was really keen to make a contribution to the local community by becoming a governor as soon as possible. I have worked in financial services regulation for 18 years, and in that time I have gained experience in managing and coaching others, and challenging senior management in the running of businesses. I hope to bring all this experience to provide healthy challenge and support to the management of the school as they strive to provide the best education possible for our young people. My spare time is all about spending time with my wife and son, as well as playing my trombone in a local wind orchestra. At the weekend we can be found riding our bikes, walking on the beach, exploring Highwoods Country Park, and anything else which gets us out in the fresh air and sunshine.

Parent Governors

Sean Frisby

I have two children, Caitlin and Paige who attend Brinkley Grove, Caitlin joined the school in 2013 and Paige 2016, and they have both settled in amazingly well. I am a Chartered Billing & Credit Manager of over 15 year experience, I have worked across many sectors Engineering, Media, Online Marketing but most recently in the recruitment sector (8years) specialising in healthcare and education recruitment. I am a keen sportsman. I play Rugby for Colchester & also play Judo and help teach the kids classes along with being a keen gym goer and spend my weekends with my family I hope that my years of experience dealing with the NHS, managing and mentoring staff will help me bring a different prospective to the Governing body.
