Writing at Brinkley Grove

As a school, we advocate the Big Write session. This weekly lesson (30 minutes to one hour in Year one to 90 minutes in Key Stage Two) is broken into two parts. VCOP led games and activities are used to motivate and promote accuracy at a word and sentence level. Following this, a longer independent writing session is used to promote concentration and focus in this particular subject.

The children are encouraged to develop their writing ideas and pace within a supportive and calm classroom atmosphere. Their work is valued and assessed weekly to support target development and progression.

Every half term, there is a Bigger Write session. This independent writing session is used to fully assess the level the children are working at and gives them a chance to display the talents and techniques in writing that they have accrued during the weeks leading up to it.
